David Beckham’s three-word message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Man Utd return. Manchester United fans’ favourite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been confirmed as caretaker manager for the rest of the season.
Jose Mourinho’s two-and-a-half year reign was brought to an abrupt end on Tuesday, having overseen the club’s worst start to a Premier League season.
The Portuguese failed in terms of style as well as substance, with United announcing that an interim appointment would be made before bringing in a full-time replacement next summer.
The club quickly worked on bringing in former striker and reserve team boss Solskjaer from Molde, with the club announcing his appointment for the reminder of the 2018-19 campaign within 24 hours of Mourinho’s exit.
Solskjaer is already a cult hero at Old Trafford, having scored the winning goal in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 1999.
He played in a side alongside the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Andy Cole.
And one of his ex-team-mates David Beckham has taken to social media to wish his old pal well.
Alongside a picture of the former striker during his playing days, he wrote: “Good luck Ole”
Gary Neville added: “I would suggest that the person who goes in for the next six months is someone who can steady the ship, knows the club, can bring people together, understands the people in the club, the fans, the media and can bring the feel-good factor back.
“He [Solskjaer] fits that mould, there’s a number of other ex-players who would. At this moment in time, I can see where an interim appointment becomes someone who brings favour and goodwill, and he absolutely would.”
