Gary Neville posts heartfelt message to Solskjaer after Manchester United appointment. Less than 24 hours removed from the sacking of Jose Mourinho, Manchester United have found their new manager for the remainder of the season in club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer was dubbed ‘the baby-faced assassin’ during his playing career, and still remains a club favourite among fans.
His attitude represented everything United were about during their heyday, and his famous match-winner in the 1999 Champions League Final was enough to cement him as a United great on its own.
Now, Solskjaer faces a new challenge. One that might to be his toughest yet.
During the latter stages of Mourinho’s time at the helm of United, an overwhelming sense of toxicity had engulfed the dressing room.
Fans and players had turned against him, leaving the board with no other choice.
Admittedly, Solskjaer wasn’t the first name that popped into fans’ heads in terms of replacements.
The Norwegian doesn’t boast the most impressive of managerial records, almost leading Cardiff City to two consecutive relegations.
However, one thing that gives fans confidence is his extensive knowledge of the club and traditional Manchester United values.
United legend and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has long been a commentator of the sinking ship that is Manchester United.
However, the 43-year-old certainly seemed positive in welcoming Solskjaer back to the club.
He posted a photo of him and his former teammate on Instagram with the caption:
“I love Ole and hope he’s amazing and wish him all the best.”
Of course, Solskjaer isn’t the only United legend to take control of the side in recent years. Ryan Giggs was also appointed caretaker manager following David Moyes’ sacking in 2014.
Giggsy has since moved on to take control of the Welsh national side, where he has been praised by fans for allowing the next generation of players to excel.
Is Solskjaer the right appointment for Manchester United? Or is the current situation at the club too much for him to handle? Let us know in the comments
