Manchester City put their 11 match UEFA Champions League group stage win streak on the line when they took on Porto in Matchday 1 action.
Porto got the scoring going in the 14’ with a Luis Díaz goal, but Manchester City was able to answer shortly after. Pepe conceded a penalty on Raheem Sterling in the box, on the pitch it was not ruled a foul and VAR was brought in to check. VAR confirmed the foul and Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero found the back of the net to tie it from the penalty spot.
The second half started slowly as Porto and Man City exchanged chances but Manchester City was able to break through. In the 65’ Man City was awarded a free kick from 20 meters out and just left of center, from there İlkay Gündoğan was able to lift it right over the wall and bury it into the back of the net. Manchester added to their lead just a few minutes later in the 73’ with a goal by newcomer Ferran Torres, and came away with the 3-1 win.
