Both teams knew their fate before kickoff in this match, but both teams played with pride and supplied a fantastic 2-2 thriller. Twice Benfica came from behind to force the draw in the end.
Standard Liege opened the scoring in the 12’ with a Raskin goal. Benfica answered back in the 16’. Then in the second half Standard Liege again took the lead with a Tapsoba goal in the 60’ but Benfica answered right back with a Pizzi goal from the penalty spot in the 67’. That 2-2 scoreline held until full-time.
